This day was spent in and around Fairbanks. At the start of the day some members of the group chased the southbound Denali Star from Fairbanks to Nenana. After photographing the train we returned to Fairbanks where we all assembled as a group. We were the guests of Glenn and Nancy, railfans with a gorgeous house in Fairbanks. After lunch and viewing Glenn's train layout we went to Pioneer Park where we rode on the 3 foot gauge Tanana Valley Railroad. We rode behind steam engine number 1 which has recently been restored and placed back into limited operation. Along with riding on the Tanana Valley trains we explored the park and the many displays it has to offer. After the train stopped running we went to the All-You-Can-Eat Salmon Bar-B-Que. Lastly, we attended a concert at the park.
This was a day of rest and relaxation with just a few hours of chasing any trains. It was a day to enjoy the scenery and warm sunny weather.
