The creation of the Wachusett Resevoir in central Massachusetts required railroad tracks be moved from the area that would be flooded by the creation of the resevoir. The result of that mandate were two engineering works of art in Clinton, Massachusetts. A tunnel 1110 feet long and a steel bridge 917 feet long spanning the valley of the Nashua River. The bridge stood 133 feet above the riverbed, was opened in 1903 and stood until 1975.
